Specter says Obama ditched him after he voted to pass health law

Former Sen. Arlen Specter (Pa.) writes in a new book that President Obama ditched him in the 2010 election after he helped Obama win the biggest legislative victory of his term by passing healthcare reform. Specter also claims that Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) did not uphold his promise to grant him seniority accrued over 28 years of service in the Senate as a Republican. Specter, who rocked Washington’s political establishment and made headlines around the country when he left the Republican Party to join Democrats in April of 2009, has kept quiet about these slights until now. He...

“Card ,Check”, Used, Unionize,

Now we know why unionists were fighting so hard for a federal “card check” law. Organizers can unionize private and public employees, forcing them to pay hundreds in union dues, before they even know anything about it. That's the situation at the Cape Cod Lighthouse Charter School in Orleans, Massachusetts. Last week news broke that the reputable charter school was the second in Massachusetts to be organized by the American Federation of Teachers. (Snip) Several teachers complained that they were never informed about the process and were never asked to vote on the issue.

GOP employs little used rule to block recess appointment of Warren

President Obama has used recess appointments in the past to get controversial nominees into the positions he chose for them. So the Republicans employed a little used legislative gambit to block the president's expected recess appointment of Elizabeth Warren to head up the new Consumer Finance Protection Board. The Hill: GOP opposition is preventing the Senate from completely adjourning for the Memorial Day recess. Instead, the chamber will come in for three pro-forma sessions over the next 10 days. The cursory sessions are a formality that will ensure President Obama does not make recess appointments, a prospect that was considered...

(German Chancellor) Merkel: Get used to mosques

Berlin - Chancellor Angela Merkel said Germans had for too long failed to grasp how immigration was changing their country and would have to get used to the sight of more mosques in their cities, according to a newspaper. (Snip) "Our country is going to carry on changing, and integration is also a task for the society taking up the immigrants," Merkel told the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung daily. "For years we've been deceiving ourselves about this. Mosques, for example, are going to be a more prominent part of our cities than they were before," she added.

BELLEVUE, Wash., Officials with the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife said they are using day-old Krispy Kreme doughnuts as bait to lure a bear in Bellevue. Used car market rocked by economy

In the process of searching for a used car for my children to use to go to school and get to work (summer jobs), I have made a couple of significant discoveries. Many used cars are selling for way below book value because there is no book value due to the incentives for buying new cars and economic conditions. Few banks will give loans on a used car at this time. Many, many used cars are for sale and remain for sale for quite some time. Cars that should have elevated used values are selling for well below "usual" values....
